University of Albany's Herb Glass Named Semifinalist for National Football Foundation's Campbell Trophy - UAlbany Sports 2011


Dallas, Texas - University at Albany's Herb Glass has been named on Thursday, Sept. 29 as one of 127 candidates for the 2011 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments. The nominees also comprise the list of semifinalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy as the nation's best scholar-athlete. The NFF scholar program awards postgraduate scholarships based on both academic and athletic accomplishments

Glass, a senior placekicker who is among 33 nominees on the Division I Football Championship Subdivision list, has a 3.20 cumulative grade point average in a dual major of journalism and political science. He is expected to graduate in December and plans to attend law school. A Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll recipient, Glass recently raised funds and participated in the Northeastern New York/Capital Region Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes. He is a candidate for the Fred Mitchell Outstanding Placekicker Award.

A native of Miller Place, N.Y., Glass recently became the UAlbany program's all-time scoring leader for placekickers. He is currently fifth on the overall career scoring chart with 183 points. Glass eclipsed the school record for career field goals (29) with a 34-yarder in the second quarter against Columbia on Sept. 24. He was named the Northeast Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Colgate on Sept. 3 when he became the fifth UAlbany kicker to make two 40-plus yard field goals in a game.
