Cambridge, Mass. - UAlbany's Samantha Brostrom has been named the America East Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is Brostrom's first career honor.
The freshman outside hitter recorded back-to-back double-doubles to help lead the Great Danes to a 2-0 week. Brostrom averaged 3.29 kills and 3.71 digs per set, to go along with a .333 hitting percentage. A native of Ellicott City, Md., Brostrom recorded 13 kills, 16 digs and two block assists in UAlbany's 3-0 home-opening victory over Yale. In the America East opener on the road at Binghamton, Brostrom totaled 10 kills and 10 digs while posting a .500 hitting percentage, going without an error in 20 attack attempts. Brostrom currently ranks seventh in America East with 2.95 kills per set and is ninth in the league with 3.11 points per set.
