Paul Layton Shares National CFPA Punter of the Week; Honored By Northeast Conference - UAlbany Sports 2011


Davidson, N.C. - University at Albany's Paul Layton has been selected as the College Football Performance Awards National Co-Punter of the Week, as announced on Monday, Sept. 26 by the CFPA. Layton was also recognized by the Northeast Conference as Special Teams Player of the Week.

A sophomore from Burnt Hills, N.Y., Layton had one of the top punting games in UAlbany history as he averaged 54.3 yards in seven attempts during last Saturday's 44-21 non-conference victory over Ivy League member Columbia. He had a career-high four punts of 50 or more yards. His 70-yarder in the fourth quarter tied the seventh-longest in school annals. His 63-yard kick on the opening possession of the second half was one four punts that went for a touchback. He also placed three punts inside the 20, including a pair downed at the one- and three-yard lines.

Layton, who had a net punting average of 42.9 against Columbia, moved to second among the Division I FCS leaders with a 47.3 average on the season. He has 21 punts of 50-plus yards at the collegiate level.
