Albany, N.Y. - The University at Albany's Department of Athletics has partnered with GE for the inaugural GE Kids-In-Free Program to provide opportunities for kids 12 and under to attend UAlbany Division I athletic events, beginning with Saturday's home football opener against Maine.
During the 2011-12 academic year, children 12 and under will receive a free game ticket when accompanied by an adult with a ticket to several UAlbany team sports events.
The GE Kids-In-Free Program begins this Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Great Danes football team hosts Maine at University Field. Kickoff is 6:00 p.m. Besides the entire home football schedule, children will also be able to attend men's and women's basketball games during both the Thanksgiving holidays and winter intercession between fall and spring semesters. The program also extends to every men's and women's lacrosse game next spring at UAlbany's John Fallon Field.
"We're pleased to support UAlbany athletics, and to extend our popular GE Kids-In-Free program to include a variety of Great Danes sports," said Christine Horne, communications and public affairs manager for GE Energy. "One of the best sports entertainment values in the Capital Region is now even more affordable for families with children 12 and under, and we're excited to be a part of it."
Previous GE Kids-in-Free events have been held in conjunction with the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, Live Nation, the Tri-City ValleyCats, the Albany Devils and World TeamTennis' New York Buzz and Sportimes.
"Community involvement and service encompasses the core principles of our athletic department's mission," said UAlbany Vice President and Director of Athletics Lee McElroy. "GE also supports these ideals, and so it is a natural partnership that we work together to provide opportunities for the Capital Region's youth. GE's successful Kids-in-Free program, through UAlbany athletic events, will expose children to higher education and our student-athletes."
