Easton, Pa. - Christina Patrick scored off a rebound in the 69th minute to give UAlbany a 2-1 victory over Lafayette to complete the comeback in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon.
The Leopards scored first, at 15:41 in the first half as Carolyn Cabrey took a shot off a rebound. The play would remain neutral for the rest of the half as neither team had a shot on goal.
The Great Danes came back from the break with a few shots on goal early in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Corrine McConville took advantage of an awarded penalty stroke en route to registering her ninth goal of the season, bringing the score to 1-1.
Lafayette (3-5) would try to re-group with a timeout, but were held to no shots for the remainder of the game. UAlbany (8-3) notched the go-ahead goal when Daphne Voormolen's shot bounced off the goaltender to Christina Patrick as she sent the ball in between the pipes, tallying her seventh goal on the season.
"McConville was a leader, offensively for us this weekend. As well as Nina Walters at midfield who helped set up many scoring opportunities for us," said UAlbany Head Coach Phil Sykes. "Kristi Troch made key saves to keep us in the game. Solid effort put forth this weekend as we played two tough teams. We were fortunate enough to gain momentum at the end of each game and come out with the win."
Overall, both teams totaled for ten shots as UAlbany had seven and Lafayette had three. Penalty corners were in the Leopards favor, 3-1.
In goal for the Great Danes was Kristi Troch who made two saves on the day. For the Leopards, goalkeeper Mara Kish made three stops and was helped out by Jenna Seybert who made a defensive save in the second stanza.
Up next for the Great Danes is a trip to Maine to take on the Black Bears next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. as America East Conference action begins.
