University of Albany Field Hockey Upends Siena, 8-0; Katharina Helling & Chantae Miller Each Score Two Goals - UAlbany Sports 2011


Loudonville, N.Y. - Katharina Helling and Chantae Miller each scored a pair of goals in UAlbany's 8-0 victory over crosstown-opponent Siena on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Siena Turf Field. The Great Danes tallied a season-high eight goal total with four other UAlbany players scoring one as the team added another hash mark to the win column.

Freshman Karlijn van Dijsseldonk scored first for UAlbany (6-3) in the fifth minute of the game. She was able to get the shot off through a cluster of players in front of the net. UAlbany fired many shots before hitting the target again in the 18th minute, taking a 2-0 lead, when freshman Amy Nicklin scored her second goal of the season with a blazing shot just inside the arc. Michigan State transfer Chantae Miller would score her first goal as a Great Dane in the 32nd minute off a pass from Daphne Voormolen, ending all scoring in the first half.

The UAlbany sticks did not rest long as scoring started off quickly in second stanza. Helling began the five-goal half for the Great Danes scoring an unassisted tally in the 36th minute. Senior defensive midfielder Erin Crosson made it 6-0 when she deflected a shot from Nina Walters to register her first goal. Christina Patrick ended all scoring as she tallied her sixth goal of the season in the 65th minute to make it 8-0. Miller and Helling would each add a goal in the second half.

UAlbany held a 47-2 shot advantage, while having 16 penalty corners in the match. Eleven players registered at least one shot on goal. Siena (0-8) had one shot on goal in first half from Jen Reich.

Kristi Troch and Sammie Rimback combined for the shutout, while starter Beth Meyers took the loss for the Saints, despite making 20 saves in 70 minutes of action.

The Great Danes will spend this Saturday and Sunday in Easton, Pa. with matches featuring Monmouth and Lafayette, both games are set to start at 1:00 p.m.
