Albany, N.Y. - University at Albany remains in national top 20 of the first regular-season Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon. The Great Danes, who were ranked 17th in the preseason poll, moved up one position and are now tied for 16th with Stanford.
UAlbany (3-1) currently holds a two-game win streak after defeating Virginia Commonwealth, 3-1, and Northwestern, 2-1, in non-conference games held in Evanston, Illinois played last weekend. The Great Danes split the first week of regular-season play with a 5-0 victory over Robert Morris, played in Spring City, Pennsylvania, and opened at home with a 3-2 loss to previously ranked No. 20 Stanford. UAlbany has outscored their opponents 12-5 as they have recorded 35 shots on goal to their opponents 13 chances. In the first four games, UAlbany also holds a 40-10 penalty corner attempt advantage over their opponents.
The Great Danes resume play on Saturday, September 10th when they travel to Storrs, Connecticut for a match against No. 4 Connecticut in a non-conference game that starts at 12:00 p.m.
