University of Albany Volleyball Goes Undefeated at Rose Hill Classic with Wins Over Colorado and Siena - UAlbany Sports 2011


Bronx, N.Y. - Casey Wright recorded double-digit kill totals in back-to-back matches to lead UAlbany to two wins on Saturday, completing an undefeated weekend at the Rose Hill Classic volleyball tournament, hosted by Fordham. The Great Danes swept Colorado, 3-0, with scores of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-18, earlier in the day, before posting a 3-1 victory over crosstown-rival Siena, 3-1, with set scores of 25-15, 22-25, 25-16 and 25-13.

In the first match of the day, Wright recorded 11 kills, while Dunja Prgomet led all players with 13 kills and a .406 hitting percentage, while completing a double-double with 10 digs. Gabby Whitworth totaled nine kills, hitting a team-high .571, and finished with a team-best five total blocks. Brooke Stanley totaled a match-high 32 assists, while Laurie Gonzalez recorded 13 digs to pace the Great Danes defensively.

Kerra Schroeder recorded a double-double for Colorado, totaling a team-high 10 kills and adding 11 digs. Nikki Lindlow finished with nine kills and a team-high .500 hitting percentage, while setter Michelle Miller recorded 31 assists and five digs. Megan Beckwith led the Buffaloes totaled a match-high 19 digs. UAlbany used seven total blocks to hold Colorado (3-3) to a .145 hitting percentage.

Against Siena later in the day, Wright and Prgomet led the team offensively with 10 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman Samantha Brostrom emerged as a potent offensive threat in the match, smacking a team-best 15 kills on .517 hitting. Stanley recorded a match-high 45 assists to go along with eight digs, six kills and four service aces for a strong all-around match, while Gonzalez produced 26 digs for the Great Danes. UAlbany recorded 10 service aces in the match, led by Stanley's four, while Wright and Abbey Wexel tallied two apiece.

Siena's Taylor Akana totaled a match-high 16 kills and finished with 14 digs for a double-double. Colleen Ahearn added 10 kills on team-high .364 hitting, while Lesli Akeo paced the Saints defensively with 17 digs. Sarah Sivertson contributed with 11 digs, while setter Elizabeth Ives finished with 27 assists, nine digs and one service assist. Sivertson and Jasmine Brown each totaled two block assists for Siena (2-5).

UAlbany (3-6) will return to action next weekend at the Ohio State Sports Imports Classic, taking on Akron, Maryland and the host Buckeyes.
