UAlbany Women's Tennis Wins Four Matches at Cornell Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - The University at Albany women’s tennis team recorded four wins in the second day of the Cornell Fall Invitational on Saturday.

In the top half of the flight A singles bracket, Ma took the first set against Colgate’s Sam Inacker 6-3, but dropped the second set 6-4. She rebounded to win the third set 7-6 and advance in the flight A bracket. In the quarterfinals, Ma was swept by Susan Sullivan of Cornell 6-0 and 6-3.

In the bottom half of the bracket, UAlbany’s Kim Weltman was defeated by Cornell’s Tamara John 6-2, 6-3. In the consolation bracket, Weltman fell to Raquel Solis from Niagara 8-4.

In flight B action, Aimee Kern was topped by Temple’s Anastasiia Rukavyshynokova in two sets 6-4, 6-3.

Amanda Hall won her second match of the invitational by defeating Lehigh’s Victoria Vityuk 6-2, 7-5 in her first match of the day. In the flight C quarterfinals, Hall lost to Felicia Frazier from Temple by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

Caitlin Crowley was also victorious for the Great Danes in her opening match as she defeated Niagara’s Kim Roberts 6-3, 6-4. In her quarterfinal match of flight C, Crowley fell to Ruxandra Dumitrescu of Cornell 6-1, 6-0.


Melissa Coughlin was UAlbany’s fourth winner on the day as she swept Colgate’s Ryan Dewey 6-0,6-4 to advance to the flight D quarterfinals. She then fell in two sets to Ashley Ebbert from Cornell 6-3, 6-2.

In the bottom half of the flight D bracket, Cornell’s Weatherly Schwab defeated UAlbany’s Alexa Etkin 6-0, 6-0.
