NICOLE SAVAGE NETS CAREER HIGH THREE GOALS TO LEAD UALBANY TO 7-0 VICTORY OVER SIENA
Albany, N.Y. – Sophomore Nicole Savage scored a career-high three goals to lead No. 18 UAlbany to a 7-0 victory over Siena on Friday night at Alumni Turf Field.
Savage got the Great Danes on the board at the 27:40 mark of the first half off a scramble from in front of the cage on an assist by Michelle Simpson. UAlbany added their second goal just over one minute later on a goal by Alysia Hough as she deflected a pass from Michele Polizois into the top of the goal.
The Great Danes went ahead 3-0 just 50 seconds into the second half on a goal by Kristen Holder after Jess Lindsey crossed a pass in front of the goal after a Great Danes corner.
Savage added her second goal in the 43rd minute after Michelle Simpson made a crossing pass from the right side of the goal to the center where Savage drove it into the back of the cage.
Lindsey added a goal in the 49th minute as she scored from the left side of the goal off a pass from Polizois after a corner attempt. Simpson put the Great Danes up 6-0 with an unassisted goal in the 51st minute as she dribble down the right side line and crossed to the middle and scored in front of the cage.
Savage netted her third tally at the 51:37 mark with a reverse stick shot after Holder centered the ball from the right side.
Christine Hoffman recorded two saves in earning her first career shutout for the Great Danes. Renee Clavette made three saves in the first half for the Saints, while Jennifer Tesak stopped 12 shots in the final period.
The Great Danes out-shot Siena, 33-2, including a 22-1 advantage in the second stanza. UAlbany also held a 9-1 advantage on the Saints (0-4) in penalty corners.
UAlbany (5-2) returns action on Sunday against the nation’s 11th- ranked team Boston College at 2 p.m.
