UAlbany Women's Cross Country Finishes First, Men Place Second

Lincroft, N.J. - Laura Cummings and Ricardo Estremera led the UAlbany women's and men’s cross country teams with a first place overall finishes as the women’s team placed first out of eight squads and the men’s team finished second of eight at the Monmouth University Cross Country Kick-Off on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Thompson Park in Lincroft, N.J.

Cummings led a quartet of UAlbany runners to place in the top-10 with a time of 14:15.8 to capture the women’s meet for the second consecutive season with a total of 39 team points. Allison Hazlett placed fourth with a time of 15:08.0, Jessica Chichester finished seventh in 15:22.0, and Kristine Mun came in tenth in 15:43.0 for the Great Danes. Ally Panos finished the meet 17th in a time of 16:02.5 to round out the top-5 finishers for UAlbany.

Estremera finished in 18:51.6 to lead a trio of Great Dane runners in the top-15 finishers of the meet to garner a second-place finish for UAlbany with 72 team points. Estremera was the top runner of the meet for the second straight year. Brian Yurkewecz placed third in 19:06.7, while John Moore came in 14th at 19:42.2. Jon Hilbert helped the UAlbany cause by placing 22nd in 19:58.4 and David Rothman came in 31st at 20:16.6 to round out the top-5 finishers for the Great Danes. The men's race was won by New York University, which had six harriers in the top 13.

The Great Danes will compete at Stony Brook’s Seawolves Invitational in Stony Brook, N.Y., on Friday, September 7.
