Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – Diana Barrera tallied her third goal in as many games for the UAlbany women’s soccer team in a 2-2 effort against Marist on Sunday afternoon at Leonidoff Field. The tie marks the third straight game in which the Great Danes fought off extra frames to avoid a loss.

UAlbany jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Freshman forward Teresa Boring tallied her first collegiate goal at the 12:44 mark of the first half, finishing a cross from Jaclyn Rosada to give the Great Danes an early lead. Barrera gave UAlbany a 2-0 advantage in the 36th minute off an Adrienne Heady feed and the Great Danes would take the lead into the second half.

Marist (1-2) broke their scoreless draught with 22 minutes left in regulation with Lauren Tillotson scored an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1. Katie Zasly knotted the game at 2-2 just under 10 minutes later, chipping a shot from the top of the box over UAlbany goalkeeper Maria Liguori. Kate Fox was credited with the assist.

The teams would battle through both overtime periods, but would have to settle for the tie. Both squads registered three shots apiece in the extra 20 minutes.

Liguori finished with six saves for the Great Danes, while Allison Lane stopped three shots for the Red Foxes after entering the game in the second half.

UAlbany (1-2-2) will host Massachusetts on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
