UAlbany Volleyball Sweeps Pennsylvania and Quinnipiac at Sheraton-Penn Invitational

Philadelphia, Pa. – Freshman outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey recorded kill-dig double-doubles in both matches to lead UAlbany volleyball to a sweep of Pennsylvania and Quinnipiac on the second day of the Sheraton-Penn Invitational at the Palestra on Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes, who have now won eight straight matches, defeated the host Quakers, 3-1, with scores of 30-23, 30-28, 27-30 and 30-27, before defeating Quinnipiac, 3-0, with game scores of 30-13, 30-16 and 30-17.

Cowdrey notched her seventh double-double of the season with a 15-kill, 16-dig performance against Penn. Senior middle blocker Ashley Crenshaw led all players with 19 kills, while sophomore outside hitter Valerie Sourbeer recorded a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 13 digs. Freshman setter Brooke Stanley had a match-high 48 assists to go along with 11 digs, while freshman libero Tawny Dahmes added a match and career-high 26 digs.

Julia Swanson led Pennsylvania (4-5) with 18 kills and 12 digs while Kathryn Turner added 16 kills and three block assists. Linda Zhang finished with 46 assists to go along with 13 digs while Madison Wojciechowski led the Quakers defensively with 17 digs.

Cowdrey recorded her third consecutive double-double in the three-game sweep of Quinnipiac, tallying a match-high 14 kills and 15 digs. Crenshaw added 10 kills for the Great Danes while sophomore outside hitter Kate Eckhardt added 10 digs defensively for UAlbany.

Quinnipiac (1-13) was led by Michelle Vasapoli, who finished with six kills. Erin Overdevest led the Bobcats defensively with eight digs, while Jenna Benigno had 11 assists to go along with four kills, six digs and two total blocks.

UAlbany (10-5) will open up America East Conference play on Friday, Sept. 28 against Hartford at 7 p.. at University Gymnasium.
