Sam Daly Scores Twice to Lead #18 UAlbany to a 6-1 Victory Over Colgate

Hamilton, N.Y. – Freshman midfielder Sam Daly scored two goals to lead #18 UAlbany to a 6-1 victory over non-conference opponent Colgate on Wednesday evening at Tyler Field.

Colgate struck first, as Lauren Remkus scored the Raiders’ only goal of the game 9:43 into the contest. UAlbany’s Nicole Savage tied the game at 1-1 with 16:38 on the clock with an unassisted shot past Colgate goalkeeper Sarah Pederson. The Great Danes would take a 2-1 lead into halftime after Daly notched her first tally of the day off an Anouk Vandenberg assist at 25:48.

Jess Lindsey would increase UAlbany’s lead to 3-1 early in the second half, taking an assist from Michele Polizois on a penalty corner. At 48:45, the Great Danes would strike again, as Vanessa Walter took a deflection off a Colgate stick and put it into the cage.

Daly added her second goal of the day on a UAlbany penalty corner at 50:18, with assists going to Vandenberg and Lindsey. Senior midfielder Michelle Simpson completed the scoring for the Great Danes a minute later, slipping an unassisted shot past Pederson.

UAlbany held an 11-3 advantage in shots and held a 9-2 differential in penalty corners. Ashley Ross made one save in the cage for the Great Danes, while Pederson made three stops for Colgate (4-4).

UAlbany (6-3), ranked nationally on the STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll for the second consecutive week, will host non-conference opponent Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Varsity Field.
