# 18 UAlbany edged by # 11 Boston College, 2-1, in Overtime

Newton, Mass. – Crystal Frates scored the gamewinner in overtime to lead 11th-ranked Boston College to a 2-1 win over No. 18 UAlbany in field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at Newton Campus Turf Field.

Frates, a senior forward, tallied her third goal of the season to give the Eagles the win just 2:57 into the overtime period. Frates flicked an unassisted shot past UAlbany goalkeeper Ashley Ross from the center of the circle.

Boston College got on the scoreboard first as junior forward Bob Dirks took an unassisted shot from the top of the circle 12:33 into the first half. UAlbany tied the game in the second period on a penalty corner, as sophomore forward Nicole Savage passed the ball into freshman midfielder Anouk Vandenberg, who tipped the ball to senior forward Michelle Simpson. Simpson’s shot got by Eagle goalkeeper Julie Berkowitz in the 39th minute. The score remained knotted at 1-1 for the remainder of regulation.

BC outshot the Great Danes 10-6 in the game, including a 3-0 advantage in the overtime period. UAlbany held a 4-2 differential in penalty corners. Ross made four saves in the cage for the Great Danes while Berkowitz had two stops for Boston College (6-2).

UAlbany (5-3), which made its first-ever appearance in the STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll last week, will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Colgate, starting at 7 p.m.
