Weltman Leads University of Albany Tennis to a 7-0 Sweep of Marist - UAlbany Sports 2009

Albany, N.Y. – Senior Kim Weltman posted a 6-0, 6-0 singles win over Emily Zampello and teamed with Aubrey Brooks for an 8-3 doubles win to lead UAlbany to a 7-0 sweep of Marist in non-conference tennis action at the UAlbany Bubble on Sunday afternoon.

Susan Ma led the team at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win over Marist’s Erin McCarthy. Sophomore Laine Mackey took over the No. 3 singles spot and recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Mirelva Colon. Holly Smith defeated Kayla O’Donovan, 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth singles position, while Melissa Coughlin defeated the Red Foxes’ Jeannie Lukin, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Caitlin Crowley wrapped up the singles points for the Great Danes with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Joanna Macaluso.

Smith and Charlotte Tatler swept Zampello and O’Donovan, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles, while Weltman and Brooks defeated Lukin and Macaluso at the third doubles spot. Ma and Mackey teamed up for an 8-4 victory over Marist’s McCarthy and Colon at the top position.

UAlbany (9-1) will return to action on Sunday, March 8, taking on Hofstra at 11 a.m. at the UAlbany Bubble.
