University of Albany Tennis Splits Weekend Matches Against Brown and Niagara - UAlbany sports

Albany, N.Y. – Senior Charlotte Tatler defeated Niagara’s Raquel Solis, 6-0, 6-2, to lead UAlbany to a 6-1 win over Niagara in non-conference tennis action on Sunday afternoon at the UAlbany Bubble. Against Brown on Saturday, Tatler forced a tiebreak before dropping a 6-3, 7-6 (2) decision to Julie Flanzer. The Great Danes lost the match to Brown, 7-0.

UAlbany swept Niagara in doubles action, as Susan Ma and Laine Mackey defeated Alyssa Lucas and Raquel Solis, 8-2, at the No. 1 position. Tatler teamed up with Holly Smith to post an 8-4 win over Hilary Hansen and Vanja Lakic at the second spot, while Kim Weltman and Aubrey Brooks recorded an 8-2 win over Emma Cunnington and Brittany Walters and No. 3.

In singles action, Ma split sets with Hansen, but came away with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position. Holly Smith defeated Lakic, 6-2, 6-4, at the fourth spot, while Laine Mackey posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cunnington at No. 5. Aubrey Brooks wrapped up the singles points for UAlbany, defeating Victoria Tiso, 6-0, 6-2, at the sixth position. Niagara earned its only point of the match at No. 2 singles, as Lucas recorded a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Kim Weltman.

On Saturday at Brown, Weltman took Tanja Vucetic to three sets before dropping the 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision at second singles. Mackey also forced a tiebreak with Emily Ellis before falling 6-4, 7-6 (4) at No. 5 singles. Brooks went three sets against Alexa Baggio at sixth singles, posting a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 8-10 loss. The Bears completed the sweep, as Carissa Aboubakare defeated Smith, 6-1, 6-1 and Casey Herzberg recorded straight set wins over Ma at No. 1 singles.

In doubles action, Bianca Aboubakare and Herzberg posted an 8-1 win over Ma and Mackey. Casey Aboubakare and Sara Mansur defeated Tatler and Smith, 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, while Kathrin Sorokko and Emily Ellis recorded an 8-3 win over Weltman and Brooks.

UAlbany (11-2) will return to action on Sunday, March 22, as they host Manhattan at 11 a.m.
