Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Leah McIntosh has been named the America East Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 9. This marks the second time in as many weeks that the junior has garnered the award.
McIntosh posted a 3-0 record, which included two shutouts and a perfect game to earn all-tournament honors at Georgia Tech’s Buzz Classic. She recorded an 0.47 earned run average after only surrendering one run which was earned in her three starts. McIntosh struck out 29 batters in 19 innings of work while allowing just six hits and one walk.
The native of Whitby, Ontario opened the tournament by pitching a three-hit shutout against Centenary in a 3-0 win. She struck out 10 and did not issue a walk. In her second start, McIntosh pitched her second perfect game of the season and the third overall in the program’s Division I era in a 10-0 triumph over Bowling Green, fanning nine batters in the process. She closed out the weekend by allowing three hits in a 3-1 win over Akron. A solo home run in the fourth ended her streak of 39 consecutive scoreless innings, but the junior still struck out 10 and issued just one walk.
UAlbany will compete in the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on March 13-14, where the squad will face Brown, USC-Upstate, Ohio and Fairfield.
