West Point, N.Y. – Seniors Kim Weltman and Charlotte Tatler both recorded victories in their singles matches to earn two points for UAlbany, but the Great Danes were unable to hold off Army as the Black Knights claimed a 5-2 win in non-conference tennis action on Saturday morning.
Weltman posted a 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (5) win over Niki Flach at No. 2 singles while Tatler recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over Sarah Giles-Madden at the third position. Weltman also teamed up with Aubrey Brooks for the Great Danes’ lone doubles victory. The duo defeated Giles-Madden and Caitlin Finnegan, 8-4.
Laine Macked pushed a tiebreak, but fell to Finnegan at No. 5 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-2, while Brooks dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Robie Verano at the sixth spot. At No. 1 singles, Army’s Annie Houghton defeated Susan Ma, 6-2, 6-0, while the Black Knights’ Kristin Beehler claimed the final singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over UAlbany’s Holly Smith.
Houghton and Beehler defeated Ma and Mackey at the top doubles position by a score of 8-2. Flach teamed up with Annie Hang to post an 8-6 win over Tatler and Smith to earn the doubles point for the Black Knights.
UAlbany will visit Sacred Heart for a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon starting at 1 p.m.
