Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Leah McIntosh has been named the America East Conference Pitcher of the Week in softball, as announced by the league office on Monday, March 2. The junior has posted a 5-0 record, which includes four shutouts and a perfect game. She also has a league-best 0.26 earned run average, having surrendered just one run while striking out 60 batters in 34 innings of work.
McIntosh’s first shutout came in her first start when she fanned 10 in a 2-0 victory over Bethune-Cookman. She gave up her only run in a 2-1 eight-inning win over Stetson, but was able to strike out a season-best 16 batters. After recording a three-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over North Florida, the junior pitched a perfect game in a 12-0 triumph over Rhode Island. She rung up 12 of the 15 batters she faced and did not allow the ball to leave the infield. In her last appearance, McIntosh posted a one-hit shutout in a 2-0 win at South Florida. The Bulls, who won the Big East Conference regular-season title last spring, were receiving votes in the national polls.
UAlbany (6-6) will compete at the Buzz Classic hosted by Georgia Tech from March 6-8. The Great Danes will face Centenary, Jacksonville State, Bowling Green, Kennesaw State and Akron in tournament play.
