University of Albany's Caufield & Resetarits Receive America East Conference Weekly Lacrosse Awards - UAlbany Sports 2009

Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Brian Caufield has been chosen America East Conference Player of the Week in men’s lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 16 by the league office. Joe Resetarits was named Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.

Caufield, a sophomore attack from Bay Shore, N.Y., accounted for 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in victories over No. 13 Massachusetts and Drexel last week. He matched the second-highest scoring total of his career with three goals and four assists in a 12-9 victory over the Minutemen. He broke an 8-8 deadlock with 59 seconds left in the third quarter and tallied an extra-man goal early in the final period. Caufield also had four goals and two assists in a 13-11 win at Drexel. Caufield has scored six or more points on four occasions as a collegian.

Resetarits, a freshman from Hamburg, N.Y., totaled seven goals and one assist in last week’s two games. He netted a career-high five goals, including two in the decisive fourth quarter, against nationally-ranked Massachusetts. Resetarits had two goals and one assist, all in the second half, at Drexel. He reversed an 8-7 deficit with back-to-back goals in the third stanza. His drive from behind the cage put the Great Danes ahead for good with 47 seconds left in the quarter. A two-time high school All-American, Resetarits is second on the team with 12 goals this season.



Paw Prints: After defeating No. 13 Massachusetts and Drexel last week, UAlbany has moved back into the top 20 in both national men’s lacrosse polls on Monday. The Great Danes are ranked No. 17 in the USILA and Nike/Inside Lacrosse polls.

UAlbany (4-1) is off to its second-best start as a Division I program. The Great Danes began the 2007 campaign with eleven consecutive victories. UAlbany travels to Princeton, ranked fifth in both national polls, on Friday, March 20. Face-off is 3:05 p.m. The contest will air live on ESPNU, with Eamon McAnaney and Stephen McElduff handling play-by-play duties. Princeton (4-1) has already defeated national top-10 programs Johns Hopkins and UMBC this season.
