Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Rebecca Lee (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) and Kendra Harrell-Vigil (Avondale, Ariz./Avondale Westview) were named to the America East Conference All-Rookie Team in women’s soccer, as announced today by the conference office. The Great Danes placed two players on the all-rookie unit for the first time.
Lee, a local product who made the roster as a walk-on, appeared in all 20 matches and made 19 starts as a midfielder. She finished the season with five goals and four assists for 14 points. Lee led the team in assists and ranked second in goals and points behind junior Ashley Tirabassi. She was also named to the UAlbany Governor’s Cup all-tournament team. Her best single-game performance arguably came in the team’s 2-1 double overtime win at Colgate. She netted the first goal to force overtime and then set up Tirabassi’s game winner in the second extra period with 31 seconds left after stealing the ball from the defense. Lee also scored two goals in the season finale against UMBC on Oct. 26.
Harrell-Vigil is the first defender in program history to be named to the league’s all-rookie squad. She started all 20 matches on a back line which featured four newcomers, accumulating two goals and four points. She scored her first career goal against Niagara and earned a spot on the Niagara Falls Classic all-tournament team two days later. In addition, she was named the America East rookie of the week.
The Great Danes return nine of their 11 starters next season. The entire starting defense and more than 98 percent of the offense’s point production will also be back.
