UAlbany Field Hockey Defeats America East Rival Boston U., 1-0, on Senior Day

Senior Michele Polizois scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season to lead UAlbany to a 1-0 America East Conference field hockey win over Boston University at Alumni Turf Field on Saturday afternoon. Polizois, along with fellow seniors Ashley Carr, Michelle Simpson, Ashley Ross and Vanessa Walter, were all honored prior to the start of the game for their contributions to the UAlbany program.

After 66 scoreless minutes, UAlbany finally broke the 0-0 tie as Polizois capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity. Junior defender Jess Lindsey and Simpson both recorded their 11th assists of the season on the goal, which would prove to be the only tally the Great Danes would need.

Boston U. (8-9, AE 2-2) pulled goalkeeper Kim Kastuk after the goal in exchange for another attacker on the field in hopes of scoring the goal to stay alive in the final 3:45. UAlbany had several opportunities to take advantage of the keeperless cage, but the Terriers’ defensive unit held strong over the closing minutes.

UAlbany outshot Boston U., 13-5, and held a 10-4 advantage in penalty corners. Ross made four saves in the game for UAlbany, recording her fourth shutout of the season, while Kastuk made five saves between the pipes for the Terriers.

UAlbany (9-9, AE 3-1) will visit New Hampshire on Saturday, Nov. 2 for the final game of the regular season. The teams hold identical conference records, and the winner of the game will host the America East Conference Tournament on November 7-9.
