Cambridge, Mass. – Sophomore setter Brooke Stanley and sophomore outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey earned America East Conference weekly volleyball honors, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Stanley earned setter of the week accolades for the second straight week, while Cowdrey was named the league’s player of the week for the first time this season.
Stanley, who has earned the award five times this season, helped lead the Great Danes to an undefeated week, averaging 14.0 assists and 2.50 digs per set. She recorded 41 assists to go along with five digs, two kills, one service ace and one block assist in a 3-0 win over crosstown-rival Siena on Oct. 15. In last Friday’s 3-0 conference win over Binghamton, Stanley reached the 40-assist plateau for the 10th time this season, handing out 43 assists and recording 10 digs, three kills and one service ace. Stanley directed a balanced attack, as UAlbany players recorded the four highest hitting percentages of the week in the conference. She leads the America East with 10.45 assists per set and is third on the team with 2.30 digs per set.
Cowdrey earned her first weekly award after averaging 5.0 kills and 3.17 digs per set last week. She recorded 15 kills and eight digs against Siena and flowed with a 15-kill, 11-dig performance versus Binghamton. Cowdrey hit .481 against Siena, while also recording one service ace. She also finished with a .424 hitting percentage versus the Bearcats, adding one solo block. Cowdrey, one of just four players to see action in every set this season, is averaging a team-leading 3.49 kills per set. She is second on the team with a 2.79 dig average.
