Cambridge, Mass. – Senior Brian Yurkewecz (Fonda-Fultonville), of the University at Albany men’s cross country team, has been named the America East Conference Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. He is the second Great Dane to earn the weekly honor this season.
Yurkewecz helped UAlbany post a fifth-place finish among 22 scoring teams at the 42nd UAlbany Invitational on Oct. 18. He placed third overall in the field of 186 runners. Yurkewecz navigated the 8,000-meter course in 24:40, which was only five seconds behind first-place finisher Girma Segni of Marist College. Yurkewecz registered his fastest 8k time of the season.
UAlbany takes this weekend off and will travel to compete at the America East Championship on Saturday, Nov. 1. UMBC will host the event at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md.
