Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany freshman midfielder Katie Grant earned America East Conference Rookie of the Week laurels in women’s soccer as announced by the conference office on Monday. Grant becomes the second Great Dane to earn the honor this season.
Grant’s career game helped UAlbany defeat New Hampshire, 3-1, on Oct. 5. The Great Danes posted thei first win against UNH in eight all-time meetings. After coming off the bench late in the first half, she netted her first career goal and game-winning shot in the 42nd minute. Grant also set up the team’s insurance tally, scored by Teresa Boring in the 84th minute, to finish the afternoon with three points. She now has one goal and two assists for four points.
UAlbany (3-11, AE 1-2) plays its final non-conference match of the regular season at Dartmouth at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The squad stays on the road to visit America East opponent Hartford on Sunday, Oct. 12.
