Burlington, Vt.- After a failed clear by Vermont, UAlbany's sophomore midfielder Katie Dunn in the 85th minute found the back of net to give the UAlbany women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Vermont on Sunday, Oct. 9 at Centennial Field. The Great Danes look to continue their two-match America East Conference winning streak on Thursday, Oct. 13 against the hosting UMBC Retrievers.
Vermont (4-7-4, AE 2-2-1) began the first half with a quick goal by sophomore forward Ellie Mills in the 9th minute to give the Catamounts a 1-0 lead.
UAlbany (4-9-0, AE 2-2-0) responded back in the 34th minute when senior forward Katie Grant was able to find the loose ball in the box and redirect it in the net to tie the match, 1-1. Both teams had four shots in the first half and Vermont led in corners, 3-2.
The Great Danes took over in the second half as they put six shots on net to the Catamounts two and were able to keep the corners even at two. The decisive shot on net was in the 85th minute when Dunn struck the game-winning goal after a failed clear by a Catamount defender.
UAlbany's freshman goalkeeper Jacky Ubert recorded four saves on five chances. Vermont's sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Leiby tallied nine saves on 11 chances.
