UAlbany's Brooke Stanley & Samantha Brostrom Earn America East Weekly Volleyball Awards


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Brooke Stanley has been chosen America East Conference Setter of the Week in women's volleyball, as announced on Monday, Oct. 10 by the conference office. In addition, freshman outside hitter Samantha Brostrom was tabbed as the conference rookie of the week.

Stanley, a senior from Hendersonville, N.C., has earned the league's setter award in four of the last five weeks. She led the Great Danes to a three-set sweep over America East opponent Providence on Oct. 7. Stanley totaled 49 assists, eight digs, three service aces and three kills and led an attack that hit .466 as a team for the match. She is first among the America East leaders at 11.87 assists per set.

Brostrom, who hails from Ellicott City, Md., received the conference rookie-of-the-week award for the second time this season. She registered a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs against Providence, plus had just two errors in 17 chances for a .529 hitting percentage. Brostrom is tied for eighth in hitting percentage (.304) and is 10th in kills (2.87 per set) among the America East leaders.

UAlbany (10-7, AE 4-0) is tied with New Hampshire for first place in the conference standings. The Great Danes have won 10 of their last 11 matches.
