University of Albany All-America Track Hurdler Alie Beauvais Competes at XVI Pan American Games - UAlbany Sports 2011

Albany, N.Y. - Former University at Albany All-America hurdler Alie Beauvais will compete this week at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Beauvais, who will represent his native country of Haiti, is scheduled to run in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles preliminary round on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The Pan American Games are held the year prior to the Summer Olympics.

Beauvais, who attended Hempstead High School on Long Island, earned third-team All-America honors last year when he advanced to the NCAA 400-hurdles semifinals. Beauvais, who also qualified for nationals in 2009, punched his ticket to the NCAAs with a third-place effort at the East Preliminary Round.

Beauvais suffered a leg injury in early May at the 2011 America East Conference meet, but returned one month later to compete at NCAA regionals. He ran a season-best time of 51.08 seconds when he took third at Penn Relays. In 2010, Beauvais set the school's indoor 500-meter record of 1:02.32.

During his career, he previously represented Haiti and advanced to the finals in the 400-hurdles at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. In addition to UAlbany's success at the America East Conference level, Beauvais was a key figure in the program's three IC4A championships.
