UAlbany Wide Receiver Cole King Chosen Northeast Conference Football Rookie of the Week


Somerset, N.J. - University at Albany's Cole King has been selected as the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week in football, as announced on Monday, Oct. 3 by the conference office.

King, a redshirt freshman wide receiver, caught five passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns in last Saturday's 41-20 victory against Saint Francis, Pa. He became UAlbany's first 100-yard receiver since Oct. 24, 2009 and tied the program's FCS single-game record for TD receptions.

A native of Syracuse, N.Y., King hauled in a 19-yard scoring pass to break a 7-7 tie with 2:42 remaining in the second quarter. He added a 49-yard touchdown grab on the first play of the fourth period that gave the Great Danes a 31-13 advantage.

King, who is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals' 1985 first-round draft choice Emanuel King, has 12 receptions for a team-high 225 yards through four games this season.

UAlbany has won 10 of 13 conference openers since joining the league after last Saturday's win at Saint Francis ... the Great Danes have scored 40 or more points in consecutive games for the first time since October 2003 ... Bob Ford recorded his 240th win as UAlbany's head coach ... Ford started the program at the club level in 1970 ... TB Andrew Smith has rushed for 100 or more yards in back-to-back games for the first time as a collegian ... WR Ryan Kirchner had a career-best 142 all-purpose yards against Saint Francis, including 94 on punt returns ... PK Herb Glass moved to fourth in career scoring with 194 points and is tied for first in career PATs (101) ... Paul Layton is fourth nationally with a 46.3 punting average.
