Fairfield, Conn. - Melissa Coughlin and Laine Mackey posted a 3-0 record in Flight C of the Fairfield Tennis Doubles Festival held at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes competed in the round robin tournament with Quinnipiac and host Fairfield in three flights.
Coughlin and Mackey went undefeated in Flight C, recording a win of 8-3 over Fairfield's Alyssa Ruiz and Nicolette Jackson. The duo then defeated Tara Brennan and Hanna Blau, also from Fairfield, 8-5, in the second round of competition. Coughlin and Mackey completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Quinnipiac's Shawna Sarson and Carly Loewenstein.
In Flight B, the Great Dane team of Caitlin Crowley and Aubrey Brooks went 1-2 to finish third in the flight. They fell to Fairfield's Dana Postupack and Meghan Sullivan, 8-1, before dropping an 8-4 decision to Natalie Dukor and Lisanne Steinert of Quinnipiac. Crowley and Brooks then recorded an 8-2 victory in the finale over the Fairfield team of Michaela Cerrone and Gretchen Amberg.
UAlbany's Susan Ma and Livia Gherman went 0-3 in Flight A. Quinnipiac's Rachel Cantor and Sarah Viebrock recorded an 8-4 win in the first round, while the Bobcats' second team of Mary Wilson and Adrienne Markison defeated the UAlbany team, 8-4 in the second round. Ma and Gherman dropped a 9-8 (7-4) decision to Fairfield's Paulina Rys and Kristen Lu in the third round.
UAlbany will continue play on October 2, competing at the Virginia Tech Fall Tournament.
