Former University of Albany Star Corey Small Chosen in National Lacrosse League Draft's First Round - UAlbany Sports 2009

Buffalo, N.Y. - Former University at Albany attackman Corey Small was chosen in the first round of the National League Lacrosse Entry Draft by the Edmonton Rush on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at HSBC Arena. Small, the ninth overall selection, was also taken in the third round of the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft last May.

A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Small was picked to the All-America East Conference second team for the second year in a row as a senior. He led the conference in goals at 3.1 per game and was second in points (3.6 pg). He totaled 31 goals and five assists despite playing in just 10 games due to a mid-season leg surgery. His rehabilitation was assisted by a VAC (Vacuum Assisted Closure) device that helped to heal the surgical wound and eliminate infection.

Small finished his collegiate career ranked sixth on the school's all-time list with 109 goals. He scored at least one point in 27 consecutive games played, dating back to May 3, 2007. Small, a left-handed sharpshooter, totaled 137 career points.

The Great Danes had three players selected in last year's NLL Draft. Jordan Levine (Philadelphia), Steve Ammann (New York Titans) and Mike Ammann (New York Titans) were chosen. In 2007, Frank Resetarits (San Jose) and Merrick Thomson (Philadephia) were picked in the first round.
