Defensive end Andre Coleman was signed from the practice squad today and will be active in tonight's season opener at Oakland.
The move is a sign that Jacques Cesaire is not ready to play, or at least fully, after missing the entire preseason with a calf injury.
Coleman has spent the past two seasons on the Chargers practice squad. His familiarity with the system is likely why the Chargers want Coleman available tonight.
The Chargers cut running back Gartrell Johnson, their fourth-round pick. If he clears waivers, the Chargers will likely sign him to the practice squad.
