University of Albany Places Six Student-Athletes on IWLCA Women's Lacrosse All-Academic Squad - UAlbany Sports 2009


Grand Lake, Colo. - Katie Neer and Rory Redmond lead a group of six University at Albany student-athletes who have been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Squad. Joining Neer and Redmond on the all-academic unit are Ashley Ross, Renee Levitin, Julie Bush and Tricia Primomo. The Great Danes tied for third with the highest number of selections behind Stanford (8) and Duquesne (7).

The IWLCA recognized 407 student-athletes at 152 institutions for their excellence in the classroom during the 2008-09 academic year. Nominees needed a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average or were in the top 10 percent of their squad and had attained at least junior standing academically.

Neer and Redmond were named to the IWLCA academic squad for the second consecutive year. Neer, a senior goalkeeper, is a political science major with a dual minor in business administration and sociology. She had 138 saves in 17 starting assignments last season. Redmond, a senior midfielder, studies communication with a dual minor in sociology and education. She totaled 14 goals and four assists.

Bush, who joined Neer and Redmond on the 2009 America East Conference All-Academic Lacrosse Team, was fourth on the UAlbany squad in scoring with 12 goals and 19 assists. Her major is communication with a minor in business administration.
Levitin, a senior midfielder, majors in political science with a dual minor in English and education. Ross, a two-sport goalkeeper, studies communication with a minor in education. She received an ECAC Merit Medal as the school's top senior female student-athlete in 2008-09. Primomo, a junior defender, played in all 17 games in leading the Great Danes to their first winning campaign in nine years. She is a pre-med student in biology.

In addition, UAlbany was one of 49 programs recognized by the IWLCA for a having a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
