Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Wildfredo de Jesus Elias has been chosen America East Conference Field Performer of the week in indoor track and field, as announced on Tuesday, Feb. 1 by the conference office.
de Jesus Elias finished fourth in the Al Oerter weight throw at the 104th Millrose Game on Jan. 28. As the lone collegiate competitor in the field, the senior threw 62-feet, 8-inches on his first attempt. The defending America East champion recorded the second-best mark in program history and owns the third-best throw in the Northeast Region this season. He set the UAlbany standard (63-6.75) on Feb. 6, 2009 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.
Paw Prints: UAlbany's men's and women's teams are each ranked No. 13 in the current USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Northeast Region rankings ... the Great Danes will compete at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 4-5 at the Armory Track Center in New York City ... Nick Santos led the 4x800-meter relay at the Millrose Games, as the group qualified for IC4As by more than nine seconds in 7:43.51 ... freshman Brianne Bellon helped the women's 4x800-meter relay reach the finish line in 9:18.58 at Madison Square Garden, nearly seven seconds better than the ECAC standard.
