At the America East women's championship, Kadine Johnson became the second UAlbany athlete to win the weight throw. Johnson, who was second in this event last year, threw 58-feet, 10.25-inches, on her sixth and final attempt. Her wining mark was just one and three-quarters inches off her own UAlbany standard. In the women's team standings, the Great Danes were first with 50 points after six events.
The Great Danes placed second in the distance medley relay, but shattered the UAlbany standard by nearly five seconds. The relay of Brianne Bellon, Jessica Hunter, Jonelle White and Kathryn Fanning crossed the line in 11:41.48. Celine Cauderlier set a school-record in the pole vault to finish third. Cauderlier, who hails from Entzhein, France, cleared the bar at 11-feet, 9.75-inches to break her own mark. Yushanni Durrant was second in the long jump and made the ECAC standard with a leap of 19-0.50. Ashley Mahlmeister was third in the pentathlon with 3,396 points. The sophomore won the 60m-hurdles in 8.96 seconds and was second in the long jump (18-4.25) in the five-event competition.
Alli Rogers qualified for Saturday's 400-meter dash final with a record-setting performance. She sprinted 56.34 seconds to break a 14-year-old standard and qualify for the ECAC meet. Xiomara Davila Diaz went 56.52 in 1997. Christen Griffin moved through the preliminary rounds to reach the championship races in the 60-meter hurdles, 60-dash and 200-dash. Her ECAC-qualifying time of 24.74 in the 200m is the second-fastest in school history.
