University of Albany's Wilfredo de Jesus Elias Earns Second Straight America East Field Performer of the Week Award -UAlbany Sports 2011


Cambridge, Mass. - University at Albany's Wilfredo de Jesus Elias has been chosen America East Conference Field Performer of the Week in men's indoor track and field, as announced on Tuesday, Feb. 8 by the conference office. de Jesus Elias, a senior from Arroyo, Puerto Rico, earned the weekly award for the second consecutive week.
de Jesus Elias shattered his own school with a toss of 65-feet, 6-inches, as he finished in fifth place in the weight throw at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 5 at the Armory Track and Field Center. His mark is the best throw in the Northeast Region this season and ranks 29th nationally among all Division I competitors. The defending America East champion set the previous UAlbany standard (63-6.75) at this same meet in 2009.

Paw Prints: UAlbany moved up one place to No. 12 in the USTFCCA Northeast Region men's rankings this week ... the Great Danes finished 11th in the team standings at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational with 25 points ... Jonathan Santana anchored the 4x200-meter relay to a school record of 1:27.24, breaking the old standard of 1:28.74 ... Santana also ran a 47.8 split in the 400-dash part of the distance medley relay ... the group placed second to Duke in 9:47.02, the fastest time in the Northeast this winter ... the Great Danes advance two spots to No. 11 in USTFCCA women's regional rankings ... freshman Brianne Bellon ran the lead-off 1,200-meter leg on the distance medley relay that qualified for the ECAC championship in 11:47.04, a time that is sixth-best in the region.
