New York, N.Y. - University at Albany's Tristan Akong won the 60-meter dash with the second-fastest time in school history to highlight his team's performance at the New York Road Runners Collegiate Meet, held at the Armory Track and Field Center on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Great Danes finished third in the men's team standings, while the women placed fifth.
Akong sprinted 6.81 seconds to easily defeat Army's Alfred McDaniel (6.91). The sophomore's time was four-hundredths of a second off Junior Burnett's school record and qualified him for the IC4A championships in March. UAlbany's Jake Rachiele was fourth in 6.96, also bettering the IC4A standard.
Freshman Kareem Morris was second in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 10.50-inches. Greg Kiley finished third in the 1,000-meter run by running an IC4A time of 2:26.68. Nick Santos and Chris Burke each qualified for the IC4A meet in the 800-meter run. Santos took third in 1:52.15, while Burke was fourth in 1:52.23.
