Cambridge, Mass. – UAlbany’s Leah McIntosh was named the America East Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, April 21. The junior posted a 3-0 record, including a perfect game, and did not allow any runs in 20 innings of work.
After pitching three scoreless innings of relief to earn her second save of the spring against Manhattan, McIntosh threw her fourth perfect game this year in a 2-0 win over Vermont. The junior struck out 15 of the 21 batters she faced and did not allow the ball to leave the infield. She followed that effort by hurling a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Binghamton, and then earned another victory in the circle one day later against the Bearcats.
Through Sunday’s action across the country, McIntosh has thrown four of the 12 perfect games in the nation at the NCAA Division I level. She is also the lone pitcher in the country to throw multiple perfect games. McIntosh, who recorded 42 strikeouts this past week to inch closer to the school record, owns a 16-1 overall mark. She is second in the nation in earned run average (0.64) and third in strikeouts (12.0 per seven innings).
UAlbany, which has won eight games in a row, returns to action on Wednesday, April 22 when Vermont visits Albany Field for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The opener will count as an America East game, while the nightcap will be a non-conference tilt.
