Philadelphia, Pa. – Joe Greene and Alie Beauvais each ran NCAA East Regional Championship qualifying times in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles and the women’s 4x200-meter relay broke a school record to lead the UAlbany outdoor track and field teams at the second day of the 115th Penn Relays on Friday, April 24. The programs combined to eclipse two regional, IC4A and ECAC marks, while the men's sprint medley relay team won the IC4A title.

In the first event of the day, Greene and Beauvais finished second and sixth, respectively, among 27 competitors in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. Greene crossed the tape in 50.53 seconds, while Beauvais won his heat in 52.00. In addition, Jean Juste completed the 110-meter high hurdles in an IC4A qualifying time of 14.52, while Kamilah McShine met the ECAC standard in the 100-meter high hurdles. She finished in 14.10.

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Jean Juste, Mike McCadney, Felipe Reyes and Jeffery Barnes qualified for the IC4A meet. The group clocked in a time of 41.73 seconds to finish second in their heat and 22nd overall.

The women’s 4x200-meter relay broke the school record by over a second, clocking in a time of 1:39.44. Christen Griffin led off the relay with a split of 25.5, while Tierra Chavis ran the second leg in 24.8. Jenn Gurrant finished the third leg in 25.0, and Fey Adaramola anchored the squad with a mark of 23.6. The time bettered the old standard of 1:40.67 set at last year’s Penn Relays by McShine, Griffin, Gurrant and Ashley Vives.

Individually, Gurrant met the ECAC qualifying mark in the triple jump championship with a season-best leap of 40-feet, 4-inches. The mark, which was barely shy of the regional qualifying standard, placed her ninth overall.

In the last race of the day, the men’s sprint medley relay team challenged the program record and posted a third-place finish among 42 schools, recording a time of 3:18.89. The mark was just over a second behind the first-place team and beat out other relay squads representing nationally-ranked schools such as Arkansas, Louisiana State, Texas and Texas A&M. Beauvais led off the first 200-meter leg with a split time of 21.8, and Jeffery Barnes followed up by completing the second 200 leg in 21.0. Greene ran the 400-meter leg in 46.8, and Tyler Fogarty anchored the squad by navigating the track twice in 1:49.3.

Furthermore, the men's SMR was crowned as the IC4A champion for its performance. Since the organization does not run the race at its championship meet in May, the top time by an IC4A school at Penn Relays is declared the winner of the event. UAlbany only finished behind Tennessee and Washington.

The UAlbany track and field teams will compete at two competitions on Saturday, April 25. Select members will continue competing at the Penn Relays, while the rest of the squad will attend the Capital District Classic hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
