Cambridge, Mass. – UAlbany’s Jean Juste and Luke Schoen were named the America East Conference Men’s Track and Field Performers of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, April 21. The Great Danes are being recognized for their performances at the Saint John’s Monday Meeting, the UTECH Track and Field Classic in Jamaica and Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational.
Juste, who was named track athlete of the week, won the 110-meter high hurdles event at two different meets. He crossed the tape in an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.36 seconds at the Saint John’s Monday Meeting on April 13. He followed that up by running a personal-best time of 14.14 seconds to meet the NCAA East Regional qualifying standard for the first time in his career at the UTECH Track and Field Classic on April 18. Juste also ran the opening leg of the 4x100-meter relay which clocked in at 41.06 at Jamaica’s National Stadium.
Schoen, who earned field athlete of the week laurels for the third time this spring, won the pole vault for the third time in as many meets this year at Saturday’s Princeton Larry Ellis Invitational. He cleared 17-feet, 0.75-inches to qualify for the NCAA regional.
The UAlbany track and field teams will compete at two competitions this week. Select members will head to the Penn Relays which runs from April 23-25, while the rest of the squad will attend the Capital District Classic hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, April 25.
