Cambridge, Mass. – University at Albany’s Katie Neer and Jodi Battaglia have been named the America East Conference Defender and Rookie of the Week, respectively, in women’s lacrosse, as announced on Monday, March 3 by the conference office.
Neer, a junior goalkeeper from Baldwinsville, N.Y., recorded a career-high 10 saves in a 15-6 victory over Marist, the preseason favorite to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title. Neer, who added three ground balls, was making her second career start in the cage.
Battaglia, a freshman midfielder from Amherst, N.Y., totaled three goals and one assist, her first points as a collegian in the non-league win. Battaglia, a first-team U.S. Lacrosse All-America selection on the high school level, added two caused turnovers, one draw control and four ground balls.
