Connors & Kothe Power Softball Past North Carolina A&T at Winthrop Invitational

Rock Hill, S.C. – Sophomore Nicole Kothe tripled and homered to lead UAlbany to a 4-3win over North Carolina A&T on the second day of the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Saturday, March 15.

After three scoreless innings, North Carolina A&T (11-5-1) got on the board with three runs in the top of the fourth. With one out, Jessie Larson singled and Tangala Conover walked. Second baseman Lillian Bullock followed with a three-run homer to get the Lady Aggies in the scoring column.

UAlbany (5-3) responded with a pair of runs in each of the next two innings. Kothe led off the fourth inning with a triple. Sophomore second baseman Michelle Connors followed by blasting a 2-2 pitch for a home run to cut the Great Danes’ deficit to one. In the fifth inning, UAlbany rallied with two outs. Senior left fielder Amber Maisonet singled and stole second. Kothe then homered to give UAlbany the lead.

Sophomore Marissa Powell picked up the win for the Great Danes by pitching the final 3.2 innings, without allowing a run on two hits and recording two strikeouts. Freshman Brittney Rose tossed the first 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, with three strikeouts. Zapora Gatson took the loss for UNC A&T, striking out one over two innings.

Kothe, Connors and Maisonet each recorded two hits in the contest for UAlbany. The Great Danes close out competition at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational against Ohio at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
