UAlbany Tennis Team Breaks Division I Program Record With 12th Win

Hamilton, N.Y. – The UAlbany tennis team recorded a 5-2 win over Colgate in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon, giving the Great Danes a 12-2 record for the season and breaking the Division I program record for single season wins. UAlbany had won 11 matches on two occasions, most recently in 1999-00, the first season at the Division I level.

UAlbany was led by freshman Laine Mackey, whose 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 win over Erin Fenn at No. 5 singles solidified the match win for the Great Danes. Mackey also combined with Amanda Hall for an 8-2 win over Cameron Williams and Stephanie Bender at second doubles. Freshman Susan Ma claimed a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Samantha Inacker at No. 2 singles, while Kim Weltman posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory against the Raiders’ Isabel Riemer at the third singles position. Charlotte Tatler and Amanda Hall also posted singles wins for the Great Danes, defeating Cameron Williams (6-4, 6-2) and Jackie Stimmel (2-6, 6-3, 6-2), respectively.

Colgate received a singles win from Elise Derose, who defeated Aimee Kern, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles position. Derose and Inacker defeated Kern and Ma at top doubles, 8-5, while Riemer and Fenn posted an 8-5 victory over Weltman and Tatler at No. 3 doubles.

UAlbany will return to action on Friday, March 14 at St. Peter's.
