Albany, N.Y. – All-conference honorees Ashley Ross and Anouk Vandenburg highlight a group of eight UAlbany field hockey players who were named to the ZAG/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
Ross, who was named an all-conference first-team member for the second time, earned Northeast second team accolades after compiling five shutouts and a 1.14 goals against average, putting her sixth in the country. Vandenberg was named to the all-conference first team and all-rookie squad after finishing the season ranked first in the conference and seventh in the nation with 13 assists.
Freshmen Carrie Brown, Suzy Clephane, Sam Daly, Sarah Deane and Joanna Irey, along with junior Vanessa Walter also earned spots on the 2007 squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2007-08 academic year.
UAlbany finished the 2007 season at 15-5 overall after falling to conference champion Boston University in the America East Championship on Nov. 4. The Great Danes finished No. 19 in the final NFHCA national rankings.
