UAlbany Volleyball Falls to UMBC, 3-2, in America East Conference Action

Baltimore, Md. – Ashley Oscars recorded a match-high 24 kills to go along with 11 digs to lead UMBC to a 3-2 win over UAlbany in America East Conference volleyball action on Friday afternoon. The Retrievers defeated the Great Danes with scores of 24-30, 32-30, 21-30, 30-27 and 15-11.

UAlbany freshman outside hitter Amanda Cowdrey led UAlbany with her 12th double-double of the season, recording a team-high 18 kills and 18 digs. Junior middle blocker Kamisha Kellam finished with 16 kills while Valerie Sourbeer and Ashley Crenshaw added 16 and 11 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Brooke Stanley tallied 61 assists and completed her ninth double-double of the season with 17 digs. Freshman libero Tawny Dahmes led the Great Danes defensively with 28 digs.

UMBC (19-5, AE 4-1) received 14 kills and 18 digs from Sabrina Hoeks, while Bridget Scheetz added 14 kills with a .444 hitting percentage. Tiffany Johnson also finished in double-digits, recording 12 kills and six block assists. Bianca Sande led the Retrievers defensively with 19 digs, while setter Kira Giles added 68 assists and 18 digs.

UAlbany (13-7, AE 3-2) will return to action on Monday, continuing America East Conference play on the road at Binghamton at 7 p.m.

UMBC (19-5, AE 4-1) def. UAlbany (13-7, AE 3-2), 3-2 (24-30, 32-30, 21-30, 30-27, 15-11).
