Savage Scores in Fifth Straight Game to Lead UAlbany Past Vermont 1-0

Albany, N.Y. – Sophomore Nicole Savage scored in the 50th minute to lead the No. 16-ranked UAlbany field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Vermont on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Turf Field.

Savage scored off a penalty corner for the Great Danes to tally a goal in her fifth consecutive contest. Freshman Anouk Vandenberg and sophomore Jess Lindsey were credited with assists on the goal.

The Great Danes outshot the Catamounts 7-5 in the contest and held a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Ross recorded three saves to register her fifth shut-out of the season, while Kristen Heavens made five saves in goal for Vermont (8-5, AE 1-1).

UAlbany (10-3, AE 2-0) returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. against America East Conference foe Fairfield.
