Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Teresa Coppiellie recorded a match-high 17 kills and completed a double-double with 17 digs to lead UAlbany to a 3-1 win over UAB on the first day of play at the Middle Tennessee Invitational at Alumni Memorial Gym. The Great Danes won with scores of 25-23, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-21.
Casey Wright helped lead UAlbany with 16 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Kaley Jacobson quarterbacked the Great Danes with 48 assists and 14 digs, while libero Laurie Gonzalez led all players with 30 digs defensively. UAlbany recorded ten total blocks, paced by Wright, who had six block assists, while Jacobson added three. All seven players for the Great Danes who saw action in the front row recorded at least one block assist in the match. UAlbany also tallied ten service aces, led by Gonzalez with three. Jacobson, Coppiellie and Wright finished with two each.
Sam Serley and Michelle Uzoh led UAB with 15 kills apiece, while Jordan McDonald recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs. Kate Morrell was the final Blazer with double-digit kills, totaling ten. Setter Alison Woods finished with 47 assists and 12 digs. Serley paced UAB (2-5) at the net with four block assists and totaled a .314 hitting percentage.
UAlbany (4-3) will return to action on Saturday, taking on Arkansas and host Middle Tennessee at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively
