Christina Patrick Scores Two Goals to Lead University of Albany Field Hockey to 6-1 Win Over St. Louis - UAlbany Sports 2010


Fenton, Mo. - Junior forward Christina Patrick scored two goals, and Nina Walters added one goal and one assist to lead #19 UAlbany to a 6-1 win over St. Louis in non-conference field hockey action at the Anheuser-Busch Center on Monday afternoon.

Walters scored the first goal of the game, an unassisted shot following a rebound, just 7:05 into the game. St. Louis tied the score at 1-1 ten minutes later, as Lauryn Smith sent a crossing pass to Nicole Kent, who sent a hard shot into the lower left corner of the cage. UAlbany would regain the lead late in the first half, as Chelsea Neff connected on a shot into the left side of the cage to put the Great Danes ahead, 2-1, heading into halftime.

UAlbany would roll through the second half of play, led by freshman Corrine McConville, who sent an unassisted shot past St. Louis goalkeeper Alex LaBarge in the 50th minute of play. Patrick netted her first goal of the day less than three minutes later, taking a pass from Walters and lifting the ball over the LaBarge into the right side of the cage. Freshman Daphne Voormolen added a tally in the 66th minute with an unassisted breakaway goal before Patrick netted a last-minute score off a defensive turnover to set the final score.

UAlbany dominated the offensive game, outshooting the Billikens, 41-7, and holding a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. UAlbany starter Christine Hoffman made four saves for the Great Danes in the cage, while Kristi Troch stopped St. Louis' only shot of the second half. The Billikens' LaBarge made 18 saves in 66 minutes of action, while Katherine Deem stopped eight UAlbany shots in less than four minutes of play for St. Louis (0-9).

UAlbany (5-2) will return to action on Friday, hosting Bryant at 3 p.m.
