Raleigh, N.C. - University at Albany's Luke Schoen finished second in the pole vault on the first day of competition at the adidas Raleigh Relays on Friday, March 25 at North Carolina State's Paul Derr Track.
Schoen cleared 16-feet, 6.75-inches on this second attempt and qualified for the IC4A Championships to be held at Princeton University in May. Liberty's Kolby Shepherd won the event by going over the bar at the same level and having fewer misses at a lower height.
A senior from West Islip, N.Y., Schoen was competing as a collegian for the first time since the 2010 indoor season. In 2009, Schoen earned All-America honors when he placed eighth at the NCAA outdoor championship. He tied his own school record of 17-6.50 at the national meet.
Paw Prints: Ethan Clary was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:18.63 ... the 4x400-meter relay of Royston Souvenir, Alex Petit-Frere, Jeffrey Barnes and Shane Wagner finished in 14th place by hitting the tape in 3:20.39.
